RE:  California Minimum Wage Increase Effective January 1, 2021

This is a reminder that the California minimum wage will increase from $13 per hour to $14 per hour effective January 1, 2021. This change primarily impacts students in casual-restricted student positions.

This change will be coordinated centrally by HR with the UCPath Center. The process will identify active appointments in UCPath with an hourly rate of less than $14 per hour and will create a new pay rate of $14 per hour effective December 27, 2020 (the first day of the bi-weekly pay period prior to January 1, 2021). This process is scheduled to take place in December. Communication will be sent once this process is complete.

UCSB salary range minimums that fall below $14 per hour will be adjusted in the systemwide Title Code System (TCS) effective December 27, 2020. The job titles impacted by this change are:

Title Current Pay Range New Pay Range
Student 1 (4922) $13-$40/hour $14-$40/hour
Student 1 Non-UC (4927) $13-$40/hour $14-$40/hour
Student Intern (4740) $13-$40/hour $14-$40/hour
Student Residence Halls (4944) BYA* BYA*
Student Aid Outside Agency (4000) BYA* BYA*
Student Activities Appointed Official BYA* BYA*
Student Volunteer ("Notetakers") (9920) BYA* BYA*

*Pay rates for positions identified as BYA must be in compliance with the new California State minimum wage law regardless of how they’re set up in UCPath (hourly paid, reoccurring additional pay, or one-time pay.)
