Training Approach at UCSB

UCSB's UCPath training team has designed a plan to address needs across the spectrum using blended learning. Blended learning allows learners to take self-paced, online courses at their convenience, as well as participate in more focused training and support, such as instructor-led, classroom training and open labs. Special attention will be given to ensuring learners are comfortable accessing and using the UCPath Help site to get additional support during and after training.

The UCSB UCPath training team is focusing its attention on the business critical tasks performed in UCPath and building a curriculum around those system steps and their associated policies. Details on the specific courses and a classroom training schedule are forthcoming, but most individuals will be able to start taking online courses sometime in June.

Role-based training will be provided for all UCSB individuals who perform specific tasks in UCPath, including initiators, approvers, and inquiry-only users. A series of recommended and optional UCPath courses, referred to as a learning path, will provide each UCSB learner with the necessary skills and training to ensure system proficiency.

Learning Paths

Employee Self Service (ESS) Users

To access user support resources for completing tasks such as reviewing or updating your own personal, payroll, and benefits data in UCPath, refer to the Employee and Manager Self-Service Resources page.

Manager Self Service (MSS) Users

To access training and user support resources related to completing manager tasks, such as reviewing your employees’ information in UCPath, refer to the Employee and Manager Self-Service Resources page.

Functional Users

If you use UCPath to complete HR, Payroll, and other transactions, or you inquire on data for monitoring purposes, refer to this section.

Learning Paths are tailored to your functional system role so that you can refer to a list of recommended courses that will provide you with a foundation of knowledge for using UCPath.

See a description of roles here.

Each path suggests the recommended sequence of web-based and instructor-led training courses (when applicable). If you have multiple roles, notice that you have an overlap in recommended courses. For example, if two or more roles to which you are assigned recommend the PeopleSoft Overview course, you are not required to take the course multiple times; it includes the same course content for all learning paths. The WFA Inquirer, PFA Inquirer, Budget Inquirer, and BSA Inquirer roles do not require any instructor-led training courses. For these roles, you can complete the web-based training at your convenience.

To access the web-based courses go to the UCPath Learning Paths for Departmental Users.

Enrolling in instructor-led training in the UC Learning Center

Unlike the web-based training, the instructor-led training that is required for your role(s) is not assigned to your UC Learning Center account for you. This is to allow you to select which date and time you would like to enroll. Since multiple sessions of each course are available for you to register, you should use the Learning Paths document to see which instructor-led training is required for you.

There are two ways to enroll in instructor-led training.

Option 1: Search for the title of the course in the UC Learning Center

Use the Learning Paths document to find the instructor-led courses required for your role(s). Search for these courses in the UC Learning Center by copying the full title of the course and pasting it in the search field of the UC Learning Center.

Checklist (Option 1):
  1. Check the Learning Paths document to determine which courses you need to take.
  2. Copy the exact name of the course from the Learning Path document.
  3. Go to the UC Learning Center.
  4. Paste the course title in the search bar of the UC Learning Center.
  5. Register for the session that you would like to attend. Note the different times/dates underneath the title of the course.
  6. Repeat this registration process for all instructor-led training required.

Option 2: Use the UCPath Training Google Calendar

The title of the required instructor-led training on the Learning Paths document is linked to take you to the UCPath Training Google Calendar of all instructor-led training. Select the session on the UCPath Training Google Calendar that you would like to register for, click 'More Details' to view the URL in the description of the event and follow that link to the UC Learning Center. Once in the Learning Center, you can register for this session.

Checklist (Option 2):
  1. Use the Learning Paths document to take note of which instructor-led training you need to take.
  2. Find the course on the Google Training Calendar of all sessions.
  3. Follow the link from the Google Calendar event for the session you wish to attend to the UC Learning Center.
  4. Register for this session in the UC Learning Center.
  5. Repeat this registration process for all instructor-led training required.
  6. Complete web-based training according to which instructor-led courses you will be attending first.
  7. Attend instructor-led training.

Google Calendar Training Schedule

This Google Calendar training calendar will be updated in the case of any class cancellations, additions, or rescheduling. We encourage you to add this calendar to your Connect Calendar by clicking the '+' in the bottom right corner. This way, you will be able to easily toggle on and off the training schedule from your Connect Calendar.

Complete web-based training before attending instructor-led training:

We recommend that you complete all of the required web-based training courses before attending instructor-led sessions to ensure that you are prepared for the topics covered in instructor-led sessions. Instructor-led sessions will introduce new topics and provide detailed instruction regarding specific transactions that build on the information covered in the web-based training. Web-based training will continue to be available to you after go-live, allowing you to review the material as you become familiar with UCPath.

Your Checklist:
  1. Register for all required instructor-led training sessions in the UC Learning Center.
  2. Complete web-based training according to which instructor-led courses you will be attending first.
  3. Attend instructor-led training.
